POLYLEPIS: IN SEARCH OF MYSELF

‘Te entregas a mí o te destruyes, no hay término medio.
Un trabajo honesto es el que no está atado a pretensiones técnicas ni estilísticas. A diferencia de las tendencias, lo que se crea desde la sinceridad es más valioso y humano. Enrique ha tomado como punto de partida su exploración personal, haciendo referencia a sus narraciones como persona y rindiendo tributo a las personas que lo construyen.
Porque nuestro amor habla otro lenguaje, dice vida a la muerte, fuego al frío y silencio a la palabra.
En esta exhibición Enrique ha hecho una selección de obras que dialogan con su momento vital y se ha entregado completamente a lo que él denomina como ‘‘las riendas del camino creativo’’. En la muestra se presenta una narrativa que no solo involucra al artista como sujeto principal, también nos invita a reflexionar sobre nuestra construcción, independientemente si es del lado creativo o personal. Por ejemplo, en ‘‘Especies’’ materializa los sentimientos que acompañan su proceso de creación, los pone en estructuras similares a trofeos de caza. Esto implica pensar en la dicotomía de ubicar a estas sensibilidades sobre un lugar ajeno a su origen, como objetos de colección o reconocimientos de anhelación.

Por otro lado, en ‘‘Pulsión Epistemofílica’’ 1 y 2, el artista toma una posición honesta en un compromiso con los conocimientos simbólicos que lo construyen. En una especie de collage estas obras forman un objeto escultórico. Aquí se encuentra la referencia directa al árbol de Polylepis, que se compone por varias capas para crear un cuerpo robusto. Las obras de Enrique toman la misma posición que las finas capas del árbol, esto conlleva a descubrir esta muestra como un retrato mismo del artista.
Crear primero desde la intención es la cualidad más importante que poseen sus obras. Enrique entiende que el camino del arte requiere constancia y dedicación, no puede simular un trabajo que no le pertenece. Por eso, como María Félix (referente principal para traducir sus ideas a la materialidad), el artista le dice al arte:
Yo también me entrego a ti o me destruyo, tampoco me concedo un término medio.’’

“You surrender to me, or you destroy yourself—there is no middle ground.”
An honest work is one that is not bound by technical or stylistic pretensions. Unlike trends, what is created from sincerity holds greater value and humanity. Enrique has taken his personal exploration as a starting point, referencing his own narratives and paying tribute to the people who shape him.
“Because our love speaks another language—it calls life to death, fire to cold, and silence to words.”
In this exhibition, Enrique has carefully selected works that resonate with his current stage in life, fully surrendering to what he calls “the reins of the creative path.” The exhibition presents a narrative that not only positions the artist as the central subject but also invites us to reflect on our own personal and creative constructions. For instance, in Especies, he materializes the emotions that accompany his creative process, placing them in structures reminiscent of hunting trophies. This challenges us to consider the paradox of relocating these sensitivities to a space detached from their origins—turning them into collectible objects or symbols of longing.
“You must understand this language with your own life.”
Meanwhile, in Pulsión Epistemofílica I & II, the artist takes an honest stance, committing himself to the symbolic knowledge that has shaped him. These works, sculptural collages, directly reference the Polylepis tree, known for its multiple layers that form a strong and resilient body. Enrique’s works embrace the same principle—each layer contributing to a whole, making this exhibition a portrait of the artist himself.
Creating from intention is the defining quality of his work. Enrique understands that the artistic path demands persistence and dedication; he cannot fabricate a practice that is not truly his own. That is why, much like María Félix—a key figure in translating his ideas into materiality—he declares to art:
“I, too, surrender to you or destroy myself—there is no middle ground for me either.”
